Bob's Bio

Elected Mayor of Avon by the Sea at 28 years old (at the time the youngest elected Mayor in the history of New Jersey), I started wondering,“What did I get myself into?”

I was born and raised in Avon. Yes, an authentic “clam digger”. That’s what people like me are called. But, I had no experience in managing a town and Avon had a reputation for much acrimony in its town government. And now, in the blink of an election, it was my job to dampen the tone of the discourse and, more importantly, make significant financial and personnel decisions that would affect the taxpayers and their pocketbooks.  What did I get myself into, indeed?

Fortunately, it all worked out. All the arguing was put to rest and my fellow commissioners and I managed the broaden the tax base in a positive way, and in a manner that did not adversely affect our citizens.  Regardless of these achievements, neither I nor my fellow commissioners chose to seek re-election.My reasons were two-fold. First so I could devote more time to my career. And second, my wife, Peg and I had five small children, and I wanted to devote more time to them.

I spent the next 22 years working for a diversified apparel manufacturer, where I eventually became President of a $60 million division.  It was another incredible lesson in the business world, and helped me to appreciate not only the complex decision-making process, but the relationships that a business is founded upon.  It was another achievement for which I am very grateful. After more than two decades, though, my travel schedule in that position was daunting and the demands of the job were formidable.  It was time to think hard about what I truly wanted to do the rest of my life.

After our children were nearly all out of high school, Peg decided to get her real estate license at the behest of a friend who owned Avon Realty. And the light bulb went on.  Why not devote my time to something so close to my heart?  And that was the Jersey Shore.  So once I left my previous job, I decided to follow Peg into the business, and got my license in 2000.

We purchased Avon Realty in 2004 and have become known as The Shore Authorities in real estate.  That comes not only as a result of our time as real estate agents, but from a lifetime of living—and loving—the Shore lifestyle. As we tell our friends and clients, “Our home is in Avon…but our heart lies along the shore”.

We pride ourselves in making every real estate experience rewarding and hassle-free, thereby creating “customers for life”.  We’re grateful for every opportunity we get to use our lifelong knowledge and resources to help someone else experience the Jersey Shore lifestyle that we call ‘home’.

Peg's Bio

The two loves in my life have been my family and the ocean. Even as a little girl, I remember my parents bringing me to Jones Beach on the weekends. Then at the age of seven, our family moved from Farmingdale, New York, to Brick Town (then known as West Point Pleasant). We were only 15 minutes from the ocean, and I dreamed of getting my driver’s license so I didn’t have to wait to go to the beach with my parents. So, even though I didn’t grow up with sand between my toes (like my husband), I knew home would never be far from the water.

When I met my husband, Bob, we were both working in Asbury Park, and living in Point Pleasant and Belmar, in our perspective winter rentals. My first job out of college, I earned my Personal Lines Insurance license and worked from a real estate firm. I suppose that should have been a sign of things to come in later years.

Bob and I married in 1973, and shortly after that, he started working and commuting to New York City. We waited patiently to start a family, and one month before our fifth anniversary, our first child arrived. Within the next five years, we were blessed with four more daughters. Motherhood became a full time job for me, needless to say, and a dream come true. You see, my Mom could not have children of her own. I was adopted at the age of three, and they had wanted to adopt more children, but were told they were too old at 36! Being an only child made me appreciate motherhood all the more.

By the time our girls were in high school and college, I decided it was time to get back to the work force. Truth be told, I was starting to get bored, as I was no longer needed on the home front as much, and with college tuitions looming, I knew Bob could use the help as well. I had a friend who, for years, was trying to recruit me to work at her real estate firm. She told me, “Peg, you’re a natural and a real people person”. So in July of 1999, I got my license and have never looked back.

A few years later, Bob got into the real estate industry as well and got his broker’s license. In 2004, we purchased Avon Realty from my friend and have operated it as a family-owned business since that time. I’m so grateful to be able to combine the two things I love most every day…my family and the Jersey Shore. Bob and I agree that ‘our home is in Avon…but our heart lies along the shore’.
